Returns policy

Last updated

Every listing is one specific item, pictured front and back. Read the pictures and the condition before you buy - they are the description, and they are the thing a return is judged against.

There is only ever one of anything we sell. That is not a slogan, it is why this page reads the way it does: we can never send you another one, because there is no other one. Where something goes wrong, a refund is the only remedy we have.

This page covers orders placed on this site. If you bought from us on eBay, TCGplayer or Whatnot, that marketplace has its own buyer protection and its own window, it decides, and this page does not govern it. Ask us anyway if something is wrong - we would rather hear it from you first.

The window

You have 14 days from the day your order ships to start a return. After that we cannot accept the card back.

We count from the ship date rather than from delivery because it is the one date we record on every order. Up to three cards travel as a letter, and the post office does not scan a letter, so on most orders nobody has a delivery date - not you and not us. Ask and we will tell you the day yours went out.

The card has to come back in the condition it left in, in its sleeve and top loader or in its slab. A card that was played with, cleaned, pressed, resleeved into something abrasive or removed from a slab is not returnable.

Who pays the return shipping

If the card is not as described - a flaw the scan does not show or we did not note, the wrong card, or damage that happened in transit - we pay the return shipping and refund the original shipping too.

If you simply changed your mind, you pay the return shipping and the original shipping is not refunded.

Graded cards

Graded cards are final sale, with one exception: if the certification number, the grading company or the grade on the slab does not match what the listing said, it is a return and we pay the shipping both ways.

We do not accept a return because you disagree with the grading company. The grade on the slab is theirs, not ours, and cracking a slab ends any return.

How to start a return

  1. Email us within the window with your order number.
  2. Say what is wrong, and attach photos of the card front and back and of the packaging it arrived in - the packaging matters for a transit-damage claim.
  3. Wait for the return address and instructions before sending anything. A card posted back without them can be refused.
  4. Send it back sleeved, in a top loader and a team bag, inside a bubble mailer - not a plain envelope, and not the envelope it came in. Send it tracked: a letter is never scanned, so an untracked return that does not arrive cannot be refunded.

Refunds

Refunds go back to the original payment method. Your bank or card issuer decides how long it takes to appear on your statement, and that part is out of our hands.

We issue the refund within 3 business days of the item reaching us and being checked. The check is us confirming it is the item that left here, in the state it left in; it is not a second opinion on whether you should have returned it.

If a card sells twice

Every card here is one physical card, and the same card is on this site and on the marketplaces at the same time. Once in a while two people buy it within a few minutes of each other, before the listings can catch up with the sale.

The first payment through keeps the card. There is no second copy to send you and no version of this where another one turns up.

If yours is the order we cannot fill, we refund what you paid for that card without you having to ask, and the email tells you which card it was. If it was the only card in the order, the whole order is refunded, postage and tax included. Nothing was wrong with your order, nothing is owed by you, and anything else you bought is unaffected and still on its way.

What is not returnable

  • Graded cards, unless the certification does not match the listing.
  • Cards returned after the window has closed.
  • Cards that come back altered, cleaned, pressed, or removed from a slab.
  • Cards damaged after delivery, including in a return posted without protection.

Packs and multi-card lots are sold as is, and there is no change-of-mind return on one. Every card in every pack is pictured front and back, at the same scale as every other card on this site, before you pay - there is no mystery card and nothing you find out after the money has moved.

As is covers changing your mind. It does not cover us being wrong: if a pack does not match its pictures, that is not as described and it comes back like anything else.

If a parcel is lost or arrives damaged

Tell us as soon as the tracking stops making sense, or the moment a damaged parcel arrives. Photograph the packaging before you unpack anything - a damage claim without a picture of the box is usually refused.

Where the order was tracked, we open a claim with the carrier, and we will tell you when it goes in and what comes back. Be ready for that part to take a while: the carrier will not accept a lost-parcel claim until the parcel has been missing for a set period, and then takes its own time to decide. In practice it is weeks rather than days. That wait is ours, not yours - the claim is how we recover what the carrier lost, and your refund is not held behind it.

A refund is the whole remedy. There is one of every card here, so we can never send a replacement.

Where the carrier has recorded your order as delivered to your address, we cannot refund it, whichever service carried it. That is the hardest line on this page and we would rather state it than leave you to discover it: a carrier will not pay a claim on a parcel it has recorded as delivered, so there is nothing for us to recover and nothing to wait for. Tell us anyway - we will send you the tracking detail and the delivery scan, which is what a carrier investigation and a police report both start from.

A letter is almost never scanned, so that record usually does not exist on one. That is a difference in what a carrier can say about your order, not a second rule - and it is the one place where paying for tracking can leave you worse off than not paying for it. We would rather you read that here than find it out from a refund we have refused.

A plain envelope is a letter, and most orders here go out as one. The post office does not scan a letter at any price, so if it never arrives there is no tracking to read, no carrier claim to open and nothing for a carrier to decide. Tell us anyway, and tell us as soon as it starts to look late: we will confirm the day it shipped.

If a letter-rate order has not arrived 21 days after it shipped, and the carrier has not recorded it as delivered, tell us and we refund it in full. There is no claim to make on a letter, so we carry that cost ourselves rather than leave it with you. If we have already refunded a lost letter for you, we will ask you to take the tracked upgrade on your next order. That is not a penalty - it is the only way the next one can be traced if it goes the same way.

If a tracked order has not arrived 21 days after it shipped, and the carrier has not recorded it as delivered, we refund it in full on the same terms as a letter: one clock and one exception, whichever service carried the order. What the upgrade buys is the delivery record, and the record cuts both ways - it is what lets us claim against the carrier, a claim that is ours to chase rather than yours to wait on, and it is also the one thing that can show an order as delivered.

Tracking is still worth having. An order small enough to travel as a letter can go in a tracked mailer instead for the difference, taken on the payment page, and a tracked parcel leaves a record: where it got to, and whether it arrived. Orders of $250 or more already ship signed for and insured as standard - that is decided by the order total, not by how many cards are in it.

If a parcel comes back to us undeliverable

Usually a wrong address or a parcel nobody collected. We will write to you and send it again once you have paid the postage a second time - we have already paid it once, and the address came from your order.

If you would rather not, we refund what you paid less the original shipping. The card goes back on the shelf, so nothing is lost but the postage.
