Value your card collection in Palm Beach County

Send photos and we will tell you roughly what you are holding, free, before you meet anybody. If you want it in writing, you keep the cards and get an itemized inventory, the condition of everything that matters, an estimated market range and a written summary - so the next decision is yours to make with numbers in front of you. We meet in a public place near you, anywhere from Boca Raton up to Stuart. We come to your part of the county, not the other way round.

Who this is for

You inherited a collection and have to decide something

An estate to divide, a house to clear, or simply a decision you cannot make without knowing. Nobody should have to guess whether a room of boxes is worth two hundred dollars or twenty thousand.

You want a written record of what you own

An inventory with condition and an estimated range is a record you can keep and act from, instead of a shelf of boxes nobody has ever opened. Read the limits below before you rely on it for more than that.

You are not ready to sell

Knowing first and deciding later is a legitimate answer. You keep everything; the report follows by the turnaround we quoted you.

What happens

  1. Submit your collection

About five minutes on a phone. Wide photos of what there is, close-ups of anything that looks unusual.

  2. We look at your photos and tell you - free

We reply within 2 business days. You get our read on roughly what you are holding, and which price would apply if you want it in writing. No charge, nothing to sign, and no obligation to go further. Most people need nothing more than this.

  3. Only if you want it in writing: we quote and schedule

The quote names the collection size, the fee and the turnaround before you commit to anything. Then a daytime slot and a public place near you: the marked safe-exchange bay at a police station, a bank lobby or a busy coffee shop, or somewhere similar that you are comfortable with. Nothing gets shipped and nobody visits a home.

  4. The appointment

We go through the collection with you, record what is there and photograph anything notable. The cards stay with you.

  5. You get the report

An itemized inventory with condition, an estimated market range per notable card, a value for the bulk, and a written summary of what it means. The first page names who it was written for and says that no one else may rely on it.

The whole process, in detail

What we evaluate

  • Whole collections, however they are stored, sorted or not
  • Inherited collections where nobody knows what is in the boxes
  • Graded cards, with certificates checked against the slab
  • Mixed-category collections: cards from four sports and three card games in one closet is normal

What a valuation is not

  • It is not an offer, and it does not obligate you to sell or consign anything.
  • It is not a guarantee of a sale price. A market range is an estimate from recent sold comparables, with the date it was made.
  • It is not something we do by mail. We do not accept mail-ins.

Is this an appraisal?

It is a dealer's written opinion of the market, for your own decision. It is not an appraisal for insurance, probate, tax, or dividing a collection between people who disagree. We buy and consign collections and may want to make an offer on yours, so we are not a disinterested valuer - and no wording of ours changes that. If you need one of those, you need an accredited independent appraiser, and we will tell you where to find one.

We name nobody: a name from us would be a recommendation, and we are in no position to make one. Three professional bodies each run a directory of their own members that you can search yourself:

  • The first look is free: no charge, nothing to sign, no obligation.
  • A read off photographs is an impression, not a valuation. It is enough to decide whether the written work is worth paying for, and it is not a number to divide a collection by or to repeat to anybody else.
  • If you want it in writing, the flat fees below are by collection size, and we never move you to a larger size without telling you first and letting you decide.
  • A one-page written opinion, with no itemized inventory, is $200 whatever the size. It is the right answer when you want something on paper to decide from rather than a document to hand to anybody.
  • Larger than the biggest collection size on the table is $125 an hour with a four-hour minimum, and we agree a figure it will not exceed before we start. Never an open meter.
  • The fee is payable at the appointment. The quote we email back after your submission names the turnaround and how the fee can be paid, before you agree to anything.
  • If you sell your collection to us, or sign a consignment agreement with us, within 30 days of paying the valuation fee, we credit the fee back. Against a sale it comes off the offer; against a consignment it comes off your first payout.
  • The deliverable is an itemized inventory with condition, an estimated market range and a written summary.

Valuation fees

Valuation fee by collection size.
Collection sizeFee
About one 1,600-count shoebox, or four binders (up to 1600 cards)$800.00
About one 3,200-count monster box, or two shoeboxes (up to 3200 cards)$1,400.00
About two monster boxes, or a closet shelf (up to 6400 cards)$2,200.00

Which price applies is quoted from your photos and confirmed in person, with the collection in front of us, before any work starts. The collection size we quote is a ceiling, not a minimum: if the closet turns out to be a shoebox, you pay the shoebox price.

Questions about valuations

How long until I hear back?

We reply within 2 business days. Every submission gets a personal reply, including the ones we decline.

Can I mail my cards to you?

No. We do not accept mail-ins, and we never ask you to ship a collection. We meet in person in South Florida, by appointment, after we have reviewed your submission.

I do not know what I have. Is that a problem?

No, and it is the normal case. Every question on the form has a Not sure answer, and a few wide photos of the boxes tell us more than a description does. Sorting or listing it first is not necessary.

What does a valuation cost?

The first look is free and you do not have to meet anybody for it: send photos with your submission and we reply with our read on roughly what you are holding. Most people need nothing more than that. Beyond it the fees are published in full: flat by collection size, a one-page written opinion at a flat price whatever the size, and an hourly rate with a four-hour minimum and an agreed ceiling for anything larger than the biggest collection size on it. We quote the size from your photos and confirm it in person before any work starts - the size we quote is a ceiling, not a minimum - and the fee is payable at the appointment. If you sell your collection to us, or sign a consignment agreement with us, within 30 days of paying the valuation fee, we credit the fee back. Against a sale it comes off the offer; against a consignment it comes off your first payout.

What do I actually get?

An itemized inventory with the condition of each notable card, an estimated market range, and a written summary. It is yours to keep, and you keep the cards. The first page names who it was written for and says that no one else may rely on it, because it is our opinion written for your decision rather than a document for anyone else to lean on.

Is a valuation the same as an appraisal?

No, and it cannot be. We buy and consign collections, which means we may want to make an offer on yours - so we are not a disinterested valuer, and disinterest is exactly what an insurer, a probate court or the IRS is asking for. What we give you is a dealer's written opinion of the market: the document you decide from. If you need a sworn or certified appraisal, you need an accredited independent appraiser, and we will tell you where to find one: the International Society of Appraisers, the American Society of Appraisers and the Appraisers Association of America each publish a searchable directory of their members. We name nobody ourselves, because a name from us would be a recommendation and we are in no position to make one.

Where do we meet?

A public place near you, during the day, at a time we agree by email. We work from a private workspace, not a retail store, so there is nowhere to walk into.

Do you come to my house?

No. No home visits, in either direction, and that does not change. If a collection is too large to move in one trip, say so in your submission and we will work out what is practical - somewhere public, either way.

What should I bring?

The cards exactly as they are stored, photo ID, and any certificates or receipts you have. Do not clean, sort or re-sleeve anything first. If you are acting for an estate, bring the estate paperwork as well: something official saying you are the person entitled to deal with the property. In Florida that is usually the Letters of Administration the probate court issues, and we cannot buy or take in estate cards without it. A valuation is the exception: nothing changes hands, so it does not wait on the paperwork. If you are not sure what you have, say so in your submission and we will work it out by email before we schedule, rather than at the table.

How long does an appointment take?

Most appointments take thirty to ninety minutes. How long depends on how much there is to go through, and we will tell you what to expect when we schedule it.

How do I know who I am meeting?

The same person who replies to your submission is the person who meets you, and photo ID is shown on request. Our name and business are on the About page.
